“Amazing & Believable Halesi Mahadev”

Among the most ancient and holiest places in Nepal, Halesi Mahadev is a very popular temple situated at the top of a small hill inside a beautiful cave. It is often referred to as the second Pashupatinath for Hindus. The image of the deity is located inside the cave, which is surrounded by natural beauty. The temple is a point of pride for the local people and is renowned alongside other significant temples such as Pashupatinath and Lumbini, both nationally and internationally. The site is believed to have existed for around 6000 years. It is revered by Hindus and Buddhists worldwide. Pilgrims believe that their wishes come true if they worship at this sacred site.

Halesi (Maratika Cave)

The site is a natural creation, not an artificial one. It features mysterious caves believed to represent the three eyes of Lord Shiva. The first cave, known as the Temple of Lord Shiva, is called Halesi Mahadev. The second cave, known as Basaha Gupha, houses a statue of Nandi. The base of this statue is filled with water, and above the statue on the cliff, there is an image of a cow’s udder from which white drops fall onto the statue. It is believed that Kamadhenu, a divine cow in heaven known for fulfilling desires, is worshiping the god by offering her milk. The third cave is dedicated to Bhairav.

The area also features several religious and tourist sites, including Dharmadwar, Papdwar, Swarga Dwar, and Ghoptay Dwar, among others. During festivals such as Maha Shivaratri, Bal-Chaturdashi, and Ram Nawami, a large fair takes place at this temple.

People from various parts of Nepal and abroad visit this site for worship. Nowadays, it has become easier to visit the temple as it is considered a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus, Buddhists, and Kirantis. Access to Halesi has been facilitated by scheduled flights, land transport, and chartered helicopters.
